William D. Paiva, Ph.D., MBA

Founder and Managing Partner

  • LinkedIn

William has spent most of his career sitting in the middle seat — between science and business, entrepreneurs and investors, physicians and technology, research and implementation. An Oklahoma native, he trained as a molecular biologist before building a career that bridges healthcare, venture capital, and academia.

William began his career as an investment banking associate at J.P. Morgan in New York, advising Fortune 100 healthcare companies, before moving into management consulting with Pittiglio, Rabin, Todd & McGrath, where he worked with top pharmaceutical companies on product-development and technology strategy. He later served as Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer at PreferUS Healthcare, helping build a bridge between American healthcare institutions and one of the fastest-growing healthcare markets in the world.

In 2000, William founded OLSF Ventures on a simple belief: some of the world's most transformational healthcare companies would be built far from Silicon Valley. He also spent nearly eight years as a Partner at Sevin Rosen Funds, one of Silicon Valley's pioneering venture capital firms, investing at the intersection of healthcare and information technology. Over 25 years as a healthcare venture capitalist, William has invested in and served on the boards of more than 20 healthcare companies, helped attract hundreds of millions of dollars in growth capital, and helped create more than $2.5 billion in enterprise value, including over $1.5 billion in successful exits.

Since 2014, William has also served as founding Executive Director of Oklahoma State University's Center for Health Systems Innovation (CHSI), where he leads efforts to transform rural and Native American healthcare through artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, and public-private partnerships. Under his leadership, CHSI has grown into one of America's leading rural healthcare innovation centers and helped secure the largest grant in OSU's 136-year history.

He has also taught venture capital and entrepreneurship courses at OSU's Spears School of Business, the University of Tulsa, and the University of Oklahoma.

William holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University of Oklahoma and an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.
